James Morton retired as a practicing lawyer on December 31, 2015. He was one of the founding partners of the firm, and presently offers his industry experience as a non-legal advisor within the firm.

Prior to his retirement, Jim practiced corporate and securities law for over 35 years. He has acted for start-up companies, and junior and advanced stage venture companies involved primarily in resource exploration. He has advised clients on property acquisitions, asset purchase and sale transactions, corporate structure, equity financings, stock exchange listings, reverse takeovers, qualifying transactions, amalgamations and mergers, plans of arrangement, spin outs and corporate restructurings. He has acted for companies involved in contentious shareholder disputes and continuous disclosure matters arising from regulatory scrutiny. He advises management and Boards on corporate governance matters.

Jim is a director of Sabina Gold and Silver Corp., a TSX listed company, and served as Chair of Sabina’s Special Committee in respect of a major asset acquisition. He was a founder and director of Pathfinder Resources Ltd. (acquired by Bayswater Uranium Corporation) and a former director of Minto Explorations Ltd. (acquired by Sherwood Mining Corporation).
